Two Minutes Late to School

I could not believe it as I suddenly woke up and looked at the time and saw that it was 7:53 a.m., Sportsboy had overslept as well. I woke him up quickly and tried to get him ready within 15 minutes, so we can still be at school by 8:25 a.m.--It didn't work.

Here's why: I (Sportsboy's mommy) forgets that Sportsboy likes to take his time and that he needs advance notice in preparation. I am rushing while he is arguing with his sleepy dad on why he needs to wear certain types of shoes, even though he has a hard time putting them on. I threatened to go "leave" without him. He hurries a little--still not enough.

Finally, after convincing him to wear the other types of shoes, he wears the other shoes (only if he did that from the beginning). We rush to the car, we buckle our seat belts and off I drive.

As we got to Sportsboy's school, he sees that no one is outside and shows concern because this will be (and hopefully) the last time he will be late. I hold my five year old's hand as we walk into the office together. The secretary (love her, she is always smiling) gives him a pass and I tell Sportsboy to give this to his teacher.

Yet, he wants to know why, and I tell him just do it. I just want him to understand that sometimes, we can't ask questions until later.

So, that was my morning. And that was the first time that I took Sportsboy to school tardy. I dislike being late or tardy.

Lesson learned: Put two alarm clocks on because one of them has been kinda moody lately.
