Last night, I had my first parent-teacher conference at Sportsboy's elementary school, Great School. I was kind of nervous because you don't know what kind of report that you may get about your child from the Teacher.
I told myself, hey you are an educator yourself--you know how the education system works--toughen up. Basically, I mentally prepared myself.
The Teacher said that she loves having Sportsboy in her class. Although one of the youngest students, Sportsboy is doing better than some of her students, she told me. I was relieved to hear that she liked my son! She enjoyed having him in her class.
That was great news. I could tell Hardworking Husband the good news because he works second shift, so I like to keep him updated on Sportsboy.
I did tell the Teacher that I will be working with Sportsboy on alphabetic sounds and sequencing numbers. She said that would be great. I do believe that parents should work with their children at home, and not leave everything up to the schools. We need to re enforce what the schools want our children to know.
I am not saying that we must wait for the school's approval of knowledge. By all means, learn extra things, however, while that is happening, re enforce the school's studies as well.
